Journalism 163 —having fun with print, audio, video and onlline materials.

Objectives: We will undertake numerous computer assignments to produce various multi-media projects. The notion is competence in these various forms can only be gained through hands-on activities.

We will also discuss the aesthetic criteria of each project so as to produce the best possible results.

Requirements: Most of the class will be conducted on the computers in DBH 222. We will proceed from print assignments through audio/visual ones with, hopefully, enough time to undertake some online ones.

Here is an example of an online project in one of my other classes.

Along the way, quizzes, homework and class participation will be required of each student. Participation will be assessed by evaluating each student's attentiveness, willingness to follow instructions and help out in the classroom.

Here are some writing tips.

According to University policy F69-24, Students should attend all
meetings of their classes, not only because they are responsible for material
discussed therein, but because active participation is frequently essential to
insure maximum benefit for all members of the class.

Grades: These will be assigned as follows:

Major Projects (approximately 7 per semester): 70%
Quizzes 20%
Class Participation 10%

Late homework will be assigned a lower +/- grade per each class missed. In-class work can not be made up.

Here is some insight into how I grade more complicated projects.

Academic Integrity: Your own commitment to learning, as evidenced by your enrollment at San Jose State University, and the University's Academic Integrity Policy requires you to be honest in all your academic course work. Faculty members are required to report all infractions to the Office of Student Conduct and Ethical Development. The policy on academic integrity can be found here.
.
Disabilities: If you need course adaptations or accommodations because of
a disability, or if you need special arrangements in case the building must be evacuated, please make an appointment with me as soon as possible, or see me during office hours.

to wrfite a greensheet for a new class. I don't know what to expect from the students or from the assignments I have created. It would be impossible to provide a timetable of assignments, etc. this first year. That will come in subsequent years when we have a track record.
